The end of the year/start of the year is a time for fresh starts, diaries, calendars and intentions! It is also a time to reflect on what’s going well in your life and work…. and what isn’t! After the holiday break, are the annoying colleagues, the frustrating job, the people you live with, the cost of your commute …all things you no longer want to put up with?
If you are ready for a change or just an improvement in your current circumstances, an activity I’ve found incredibly useful myself and have used it with lots of clients to inspire them to create a vision of their life in a year’s time is the Future Vision document. Now a lot of my clients do this on an annual basis and it has become the starting point to our working together.
It requires 30 minutes or so of guided and productive day dreaming about how the next year is going to work out for you. So not a bad activity to do on those days when you are trying to get motivated after the break!
By answering the series of questions about different areas of your life as if you have already achieved them, you end up with an inspiring, personalised road map for the following year. When you download it, I’ll share with you how to turn that into an actionable plan.
When I have used it with my coaching clients the results have been almost spooky, here’s one person’s Future Vision that she wrote over a year previously – the green highlights all the positive things that have come true in the intervening months. (It’s supposed to be fuzzy to keep her confidentiality!)
If you’d like to try it, go to the panel to the right of this article, fill in your name and email address and it will be sent to you instantly. I will follow that up with 4 emails with related resources attached to turn your dreams into a realistic plan to follow daily. You can unsubscribe at any point that this is not giving you value.
You can write it, record it, draw it, write it, embroider it , turn it into a spreadsheet – whatever suits you and makes it alive and real for you.
Once you have finished it, it has more power if you share it with someone who can help you stick to it and find opportunities for you to achieve it, ideally a coach, if not a partner or work buddy or trusted friend.
If you are a coach, feel free to use this with your clients and help them acheive their dreams. I’ll be sharing more strategies for coaches in my programme “5 Star Coaching Breakthrough” in 2018. You can find out more details here.
